AIRCRAFT SYSTEMS MECHANIC
  • Work on prototype experimental aircraft, aircraft experience is a plus.
  • Dynamic fast paced environment.
  • Strong mechanical background.
  • Must have general mechanics tools.
  • Proficient in the use of various hand tools and equipment.
  • Proficiency in schematic/blueprint reading.
  • Ability to perform basic math functions, including decimals and fractions.
  • Use measuring tools, devices and equipment such as scales, calipers, micrometers.
  • Proficient in the use of fabrication equipment such as tube bender, flaring machine, flex hose swaging tool, vertical mill, lathe, drill press, metal shear, metal brake is a plus.
  • Works from engineering drawings and written or verbal instructions.
  • Fabricate, assemble, install, and test aircraft systems (hydraulic/pneumatic/oxygen/fuel/ plumbing/flight controls/landing gear) parts, sub-assemblies, and assemblies with little or no supervision.
  • Perform duties in other skill areas such as electrical, composite and metal part fabrication as required.
  • A & P license is a plus.

AVIONICS ENGINEER

This position involves:

  • High level and detailed design of hardware and software
  • Writing software for embedded systems.
  • Debugging software
  • Performing hardware/software integration
  • Performing software unit and high-level functional testing
  • Systems Integration and Test

Candidates should have experience with Linux, VxWorks, or other embedded O/S. They should be proficient in C and C++. Some hardware development experience is strongly desired. Microcontroller or embedded processor programming experience is desired. This position will require simultaneous design of multiple projects. Experience with a complete product development cycle is desired. Avionics software development experience is a plus. Pilot experience is a definite plus. We are looking for someone who has a passion for aviation / space applications, and can solve complicated problems with simple software / hardware solutions. Programs are fast paced, and each individual is given significant responsibility.

NC PROGRAMMER

NC programmer needed for SpaceShipTwo and other Scaled projects. Will support milling of 1-30 pcf foam (and occasionally composites) by a 5-axis gantry mill with a Fanuc 18i controller. Catia V5 manufacturing and Vericut experience required. DOD security clearance required. CNC and manual machining experience is desired.

MATERIALS and PROCESS ENGINEER

Seeking hands-on composite M&P Engineer with a good understanding of materials selection and characterization, qualification testing, specification writing, process development and troubleshooting. Should have a strong background in composites construction (wet lay-up, prepreg, etc.), composite bonding and assembly, and tool construction/utilization. Pilot, aircraft homebuilding and rapid prototyping experience a plus. DOD Secret Clearance a strong plus.

MANUFACTURING ENGINEER

Seeking experienced Manufacturing Engineer with a good understanding of composite part tooling, fabrication, and assembly. Applicant will be helping transition prototype structures to low-rate production. Problem solving and good communication skills are required. Hands-on experience with composite part fabrication and assembly processes required. A working knowledge of configuration management practices and liaison engineering skills are required. Basic stress analysis skills are a plus. DOD Secret Clearance is a strong plus. Multiple positions are available.

COMPOSITES DESIGN ENGINEER

Seeking experienced, well-rounded Design Engineer with a good knowledge of all stages of composite structural design, including: conceptual design, layout, sizing, detail design, fabrication instruction writing, and shop liaison. Problem solving and good communication skills are required. Hands-on experience with composites part fabrication and assembly processes required. Stress analysis skills (hand analysis or FEA) and proficiency in CATIA V5 a plus. Pilot, aircraft homebuilding and rapid prototyping experience a strong plus. Multiple positions are available.

MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER

Seeking a hands-on, experienced Mechanical Engineer proficient in mechanical design, materials selection, kinematics, troubleshooting and analysis. Problem solving and good communication skills are required. Experience designing mechanical hardware for aircraft, such as landing gear, manual flight controls or similar mechanisms, is desired. Proficiency in CATIA V5 and/or SolidWorks a plus. Pilot, aircraft homebuilding, and rapid prototyping experience a strong plus. A background in composite construction is a plus, but not a requirement. Multiple positions are available.

AERODYNAMICIST

Seeking an experienced Aerodynamicist with knowledge of aircraft sizing, performance, and stability & control. Applicant should have a complete understanding of fluid dynamic technical principles, theories, concepts and CFD design/analysis methods. Tasks include: performance analysis, stability & control work, basic aircraft sizing, CFD grid generation, aerodynamic and propulsion CFD design, analysis of internal and external flow and post-processing of CFD solutions. Must complete a variety of conceptual and preliminary design CFD studies in a thorough, imaginative, and practical manner, as well as, document and present results. Familiarity with aero tools including: Fluent, vortex lattice codes, DATCOM, Hoerner, and airfoil design tools is desired. Must have a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering and directly related work experience. M.S. is a plus. Pilot, aircraft homebuilding, and rapid prototyping experience a strong plus.

PROPULSION ENGINEER

Seeking an experienced Rocket Propulsion Engineer with a good understanding of theoretical rocket motor design, as well as hands-on motor experience. Hybrid motor design experience is highly desired. Applicant should have leadership qualities and experience managing small teams. Applicant should also have some knowledge of composite structures. Must have a BS in Engineering and directly related work experience. MS is a plus. Pilot, aircraft homebuilding and rapid prototyping skills are a plus.

BUSINESS ANALYST/PROGRAM BUSINESS MANAGER

Scaled Composites is looking for a Business Analyst (BA)/Program Business Manager (PBM) to actively work the day to day business issues of an exciting research program. As a BA/PBM you would work closely with the Program Manager, Project Engineer, Customer Counterparts, and Scaled Management, to assure cost and schedule performance is being properly tracked and met. BA/PBMs help establish, maintain and report on the project budget, schedule, and performance.

This position requires good communication skills, an understanding of basic budgeting, and knowledge of MS office applications. Strong Excel skills are a must. Knowledge of MS Project and earned value is a definite plus. Salary is based on experience.

COMPOSITE FABRICATORS

Scaled is looking for good crafts people that like to build things with their hands. This position involves taking engineering drawings and turning them into real hardware. We are looking for people who can fabricate prototype hardware. Your back ground can be in wood, metal or composites, but we need someone who is very “hands-on” with good mechanical aptitude. Training is provided. Must enjoy a fast paced R&D environment and a team atmosphere. Entry level through experienced technicians needed.

JANITORIAL/GROUNDS KEEPERS

Scaled Composites has immediate openings for Janitorialial and ground keepers. History in house keeping or maintenance is a plus. Job duties may include cleaning of offices and facility, and grounds maintenance. 1st and 2nd shifts available, salary is based on experience. DOD clearance is a plus but not mandatory.
