President
Doug Shane is the President of Scaled Composites, LLC in Mojave, California. He was the first engineer hired by Burt for Scaled when it opened for business in 1982, and has held positions of increasing responsibility including Project Engineer, Director of Flight Operations, Vice President/Business Development, and Executive Vice President. He has been an officer of Scaled since 1989, and had a significant role in the fifteen-fold growth in company sales over those 20 years.
He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Kansas, and in 2004 was made a member of its Alumni Honor Roll.
His flight test experience includes the first flights of eight new prototypes, including the White Knight, Adam 309, VisionAire Vantage, and Williams International V-Jet II. He is a Fellow and past President of the Society of Experimental Test Pilots.
Honors and awards include the Iven C. Kincheloe Award for outstanding professional accomplishment in flight testing by SETP in 1997, an Aviation Week Aerospace Laureate award in 2005, and the Robert J. Collier trophy also in 2005.
